Computing
At Limes Farm Infant School and Nursery we provide a high-quality, considered and relevant computing education, which equips children to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. We widen their cultural capital and ensure they have no limits set on their learning journey.
At the forefront of the teaching of Computing is our commitment to Online Safety. Within EYFS class discussions, the children will carefully consider how to use the technological equipment safely, following our school rules and are able to voice concerns. Across the School, at the beginning of each Half Term, Online Safety lessons are provided in all classes and are planned to develop resilience. We want to teach children to manage risks safely when using technology, nurturing their curiosity yet instilling appropriate confidence and boundaries.
In the Foundation Stage, our young digital citizens develop their knowledge by recognising a range of technology that is used in their homes and school. Through experimenting with a range of different equipment such as iPads, PCs, cameras, microphones and mechanical toys, the children will begin to speculate on why things happen or how things work and interact with age appropriate computer software.
Throughout Key Stage 1, the children’s use of digital technologies continues through the use of iPads and PC's. We have chosen the NCCE Scheme to underpin our planning and feel that this is an excellent base from which our children can develop.
The NCCE Scheme is the right choice as it enables us to deliver the fundamental basics of Computing, such as typing, mouse and track pad skills. The curriculum teaches children key knowledge about how computers and computer systems work, and how they are designed and programmed. Learners will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of computational systems of all kinds, whether or not they include computers.
By the time they leave Limes Farm Infant School and Nursery, children will have gained key knowledge and skills in the three main areas of the computing curriculum: computer science (programming and understanding how digital systems work), information technology (using computer systems to store, retrieve and send information) and digital literacy (evaluating digital content and using technology safely and respectfully).
The objectives within each strand support the development of learning across the key stages, ensuring a solid grounding for future learning and beyond.
